When she was released from her job with Angel, she didn't ... die, exactly. She just moved on. When they said that they were taking different paths, it mostly meant that they were putting her on someone else's. Who it is? She doesn't know yet, but until then, she has a job and she has a not-quite-crappy apartment, minus one preternatural roommate.
Really, all it is is that the PTB need a truth teller, and she was one of the best ones around.
So she's here to take care of anything you need. Coffee? Pie? Nagging doubts about your life path? She's here to make sure you're taken care of.
